Devil May Cry Gritty Scan Lines Photoshop Tutorial
This is a very fast (and especially easy) guide to applying a gritty, moody scan line effect to an image to emulate the gothic type vibe that the Devil May Cry games are based around. One of the benefits of this technique is it’s very flexible and can be used on any type of image and produce an attractive effect. But enough about all that, let’s get started!
- Firstly we need a graphic to apply the effect to. If you’d like to follow this tutorial as closely as possible then I’d suggest using the following Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening DVD case picture I have included below:
- This effect only takes a few steps and couldn’t be any easier to apply. Simply go to Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern and use the following settings:
- Which will leave you with something like this:
- Ugh! That’s pretty hideous huh? Fear not, we’re not finished yet! To finish off just go to Edit > Fade Halftone Pattern and set the Mode to anything of you choosing, although I recommend Overlay.
- And you’re done! You can now sit back and admire your handiwork! Even though this is a very easy technique, it does have alot of potential. Feel free to experiment with other images to see what you can come up with.
